The Moore Philharmonic Strings Ensemble performed the opening concert of the Fall 2023 season at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian on October 21, 2023 at 7pm. This concert was my first orchestra concert performing as a cellist, and what a wonderful experience indeed! Set in the beautiful sanctuary at Brownson Memorial, the strings ensemble performed several pieces with the theme, “From Bach to Broadway”, including Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto 3", Gounod's “Funeral March of a Marrionette”, Brahms' “Academic Festival Overture”, “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserable, a “Grease” medley, and more.
Under the direction of Eric Kopecky, adjunct music instructor at Sandhills Community College, the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra is entering into it's 19th season this year, comprised of 60% students along with music teachers and adult enthusiasts. The MPO is a local 501-C3 non-profit organization that offers young students the opportunity to hone their skills, including scholarship opportunities to help them succeed in their pursuit of a musical career. There are no fees or auditions to join the MPO, providing a wonderful opportunity for community members to support up and coming talent, as well as enhance the quality of living among the Moore County, NC community through music.
The Moore Philharmonic will be performing a holiday concert on December 16, 2023 at Pinecrest High School, which will feature the entire orchestra, comprised of 70 members this season. For more information, including links for donations, please visit https://www.mporchestra.com/
